So, so excited

A little bit late today but I had to finish this beauty. I know you have seen my handkerchiefs before but these are truly special. Made a collage so you can see why I am so excited. The handkerchief on the left is pinpricked out of paper I layered with hexagons and it holds its position due to double-sided tape. The one in the middle is pinpricked in as is the last one but in a different manner which gives a different texture.

Maybe you're thinking why are you so excited? Well, this in-lay-technique is normally used by cutting paper with a knife but I have never seen anyone who used in-lay-pinpricking and so it feels like I invented something new. Maybe I haven't but I'm still very excited about it anyway!

Have a fabulous start of your week!

Bullion knot ledger

Last week I showed you these samples and I simply loved them. It wasn't the first time that I used bullion knots in an unusual way and so a lightbulb flashed up to make make a ledger with all the variations that were made over the years.
There are samples in stitched on white, black & white photographs of other ideas with the bullion knot and all collected in a lifestylebook. The book is ringbound which was very helpful to remove all the textpages. The book isn't full yet which is a good thing because there is a big chance that at some point another idea with a bullion knot will pop-up in my head.

Enjoy the video!

A place to live

For my birthday I got a handmade piece of fabric that was patched together by mrs. Crocodile aka Anneli. I loved it but what was I gonna do with it? One things for sure I didn't want it to end up in my stash and so I decided to make a pouch from it, a home for my ledger. It wasn't a big job, I button holed it together and did a second row of button hole stitch in a different colour. Thought it was appropriate and it was something I'd never done before. And you know what; I'm totally over the moon with it.

In case you're wondering which ledger lives here, take a look.

Enjoy your start of the week!

Ida Lorentzen

A short while ago I came across the work of Ida Lorentzen for the first time and I fell in love. Her work reminds me of Vilhem Hammershøi, a documentary about his life you can see here.

In the video above you can see the house Ida built especially for her paintings, just so that the atmosphere in the paintings is the same as the room they hang in. Totally love that!

Now this blogpost opens with a picture of a small piece I made with one of Ida's paintings as inspiration. It is made out of three layers of paper, started with 6 strands bullion knots, went to four and the last doorpost is made of two strand bullion knots. The floor is pinpricked going from big bold holes to fine holes and the window is a simple two strand running stitch. At first I wanted to give each wall a different stitch but I decided against this, I want to keep it as simple as possible and give the room air to breathe.

It's something complete different from what I normally do but it truly was lovely to work this way although hard on my fingers at times.

Have wonderful weekend and no matter what .... Keep stitching!

A small experiment

Working with the Soul Food colours again on the piece I showed you yesterday inspired me to work a bit more with theses colours again. Had some Mulberry paper blue and purple and some printed text on normal printer paper. Made a composition and embroidered it together with pink.

The edges of the Mulberry paper are torn, the loop is pinpricked and the hexagon buildingblocks are simply cut out with a pair of scissors. (You had no idea that that was also possible? :-) ) It's a very fragile piece but that's also the charm of it. Mulberry paper is lovely to work with, so I have to think of something else I can do with it.

Have a lovely wednesday!

A gift

Last sunday it was the most beautiful day and I had the chance to sit outside and stitch. It was almost 20 degrees Celsius and hardly any wind, which is a rarity on our isle.

This piece is created as a gift to my beloved Taurus-sister and since she still loves Soul Food as much as when it was made I decided to make her a special handkerchief in the colours of Soul Food

Happy birthday Lisa

Enjoy your weekend!

Bullion knot samples

Last night I wanted to play with bullion knots and this is what I came up with. A hexagon, a circle and a square filled with a weave of bullion knots. It was fun to do and although a bit more needness needs to be found while practicing, these are wonderful samples to have.

Enjoy your friday!

Three flowers follow-up

Last week I showed you the three flowers. Continued working on this idea. In the collage above you can see the result with pretty papers. I used different scissors to cut the paper to add some interest in that way.

After finishing the paper piece I decided to make one more with fabric. This time the fabric was taken all from the same handkerchief, a corner, a sideline and from the center.

And although there is nothing wrong with the last three samples of these flowers, they don't speak to me like the Outlander flowers do. Therefore I decided to stop this excercise for now.

Enjoy your week.

Three handkerchiefs

These three handkerchiefs are embroidered on one A3 sheet of paper. They are photographed separately so you can see as many details as possible. At the moment I'm totally in love with the blue one, never used squares before but I can promise you, they will appear again.

Enjoy the start of your week.

Handkerchief with text

This is another piece that I made on paper with a blue wash as a background. This one works for me.

Made also a few pictures while the sun was disappearing again for the night. I really like the pieces of text. It is a different way, for me, to add text to my paper pieces.

Have a great weekend!

Three flowers

Made this piece during the weekend and although I still love the idea of doing the three flowers like this,  but I don't like this result. Just realized that I didn't share some pictures with you that were the starting point of this.

This is from my Outlander-project. You can read or re-read the start of this project here and watch the video of this project here.

There are a couple of differences that can be made, for instance to keep the background white and/or use white thread instead of brown, different fabric or paper. Anyway for me it is back to the start and have another go with this.

Enjoy your wednesday

Window frame

This piece is made to combine my love for windows and carpentry. Haven't made a view for my window yet but the window itself looks great to me and there are a lot of opportunities to extend this idea, changing the shape of the window, the colour, the size. So in future there are lots of wrapping possibilities!

Enjoy the start of your week with some awesome views of spring.
