Buttons

While remaking the memories page from my Focus ledger for the exhibition I decided that I wanted different buttons. Buttons is one of the very prominent features in class which is coming to an end this week.

These buttons are made of white card, a bit of wool covered with silk paper. And although they are beautiful I don't think these beauties will end up on the A3-version of the page with memories. I don't think they aren't definied enough to pass as buttons and they don't have enough texture for me.

Time to start over again because I still need buttons.

Have a grand wednesday.

The alphabet

On this monday morning I have the letter E for you. The E for excited. Yes, I'm excited again simply because the tiniest of change can make a big difference. I love the simplicity of these two, the lines fine while the silk thread is almost bulky.

Hope you're excited too about the new week that lies ahead. Have a great one!

books, books, books

Sometimes one can be so lucky and come across some lovely little books at the library. Four books about embroidery on paper from Erica Fortgens. And to top things off they are all in Dutch which I think is absolutely fantastic since they come from the Danish library. These books will be used as inspiration in an attempt to do even more with paper, more variety, exploring more possibilities.

Sometimes life can be so grand ... :-)

Have a wonderful summerday.

The alphabet

A new week has started. We had some gorgeous sunsets during the weekend which gave me the opportunity to make some photographs outside. The H is constructed with french knots and lots of them. Used this technique already several times and still it gives me a sense of calmness. These seemingly endless repetitions are like a meditation and all of a sudden the piece is already finished.

You saw already this S last week, since it is one of my favorites I had to make another picture of it. Simply because I love it.

Have a grand start of your week while remembering your beautiful, lovely, stunning moments of the weekend.

Celtic idea

Some years ago I designed and embroidered this celtic peace sign. For some reason while on holiday I thought about it and decided that it would be a wonderful idea if I embroidered it on paper with bullion knots.

Made a tiny sample to see if it was possible at all. Conclusion it is possible with a lot of patience and since patience is my middlename it is a project I would like to do. Unfortunately I don't have any time to start such an elaborate project since I still have a lot of work to do for the exhibition,  so this is one that has to wait. One project for the rainy day when I have nothing to do.

Hope your days are just as much filled with all kinds of work that you love. Have a fantastic weekend.

The alphabet

Two letters of my new alphabet project today. In the picture above you see the letter P. A lot of texture was added by using all white threads in different thickness and stitches. It is done totally random and I love it.

The letter S is backstitched first and than needlelace in silk thread is added. Again a lot of texture, it gives it a bit of a 3D-effect. It would be lovely to stitch a word in this technique but that's for another time.

That's all for today. Have a wonderful summerday and I'll see you soon again.

A new addition to the Nordals project

For this idea I took the name of the village Mjels. The idea for this page is more or less and extension of the page I made for Guderup. I tried a different technique, ripping out part of the lettering instead of pinpricking it. Although I like the texture given by ripping I'm not really sure it works in this composition. Never mind the idea is now stored on a page for future reference and that is enough.

And ofcourse I couldn't resist making a detailed picture of the bullion knots standing proud on the paper.

Have a wonderful start of your week!

A new start

The summer holiday has come and gone. School for the kids started again. A new start for me too and I could hardly wait to start making the ideas that I jotted down while being in Norway.

A new serie called The Alphabet. The Alphabet is gonna be a sample serie of each letter of the alfabet. As you can see in the pictures blue and white are gonna be the leading ladies and it will be a minimalistic serie.

Besides this serie I als need to finish the Nordals-project and the pieces for the exhibition next spring. So I'm looking forward to a lot of hours of creative work.

Time to get started!

Addition to the Nordals-project

Another village got their lettering. Again a minimalistic one. At the moment I'm more drawn to small mark making than to extensive ones. I could easily have doodled on the lettering or embellished them with different stitches but that doesn't feel right at the moment, so I leave it to this.

Have yourself a wonderful weekend.

The story of writing

The other day a friend showed me her new book called The story of writing by Andrew Robinson. Since I was visiting I couldn't snuggle up with the book. Therefore I put in an order at the library and lucky me it came fast. It is a wonderful book and this post is merely a note for future inspiration source for new project, maybe.

Enjoy your day with your book.
