Nordals II

Another page is ready and what I realized making this page is that most villages have really long names. The problem with that is that I really need to get my letters smaller, otherwise I can't get them all on one page. A problem identified and in a solution is just around the corner. On a more positive note I managed to use the colour green as I wished for in this post.

Time to wish you a lovely spring weekend, enjoy yourself!

News

Some of you might recognize this idea since I already made it once before in the ledger for my Focus-project. At the moment I'm making a larger one because I have been invited for the yearly Easter Artshow here on the isle. Yes, I'm aware that this event is almost a year away but embroidery is a slow process and one can't have too much time in advance.

In the show there will be some of my embroidered paperplates, my small childhood dreams-serie, some stand alone pieces and some pages from the ledger. These pages have to be done again, I don't want to include my ledger in the exhibition because it is too fragile.

This will be the first time my work will be in an exhibition and what I like about it is the challenge to come up with presentation ideas. Luckily there is more than enough time to ponder over that.

Enjoy your thursday!

Celtic peace

No idea if anyone remember this celtic peace-sign which I made in 2014. I told you than that I needed to find a way to finish it and this took me over two years.

The other day, after a storm, we found some wrecked fishingnets. Husband asked: Do you need them? An immediate yes followed. After cleaning it I put the cloth over it and if fitted very well. But how was I to put it on this ring?

As a finish I had done the buttonhole stitch, than I remembered to have some elastic cord in my stash. In the picture you can see how I used it.

Another problem solved!

Have a great wednesday.

Nordals

Last week I started a new project which was on my mind already for some time. The start of the idea comes from the book you see in the middle of the picture. The book is about economic stimulation of the northern part of Als, the peninsula I live on. Besides text and figures there are also photographs in the book which I liked. Some of you know that I carry my camera with me at all times and have taken tons of pictures of my surroundings. Besides this I wanted to expand my library on how to use lettering in my work.

So my photographs and lettering ideas will be combined in this book. There are 25 villages and for each I intend to make a different page. At the moment 6 ideas are about ready and I really like it although at first I thought I would use the colours blue, green and white but so far the green is left behind. Oh well, we'll see what happens later on.

Have yourself a lovely tuesday.

Joseph Cornell

At the moment I'm totally fascinated by the work of Joseph Cornell. After looking at lots of pictures and watching a documentary about his life and work I ordered this book at the library. It came just in time because a three day weekend lies ahead. Time to snuggle up with a book again.

Have a grand weekend.

The second sample of another road

Last week I already showed you the plate on the right. Made another one. The difference is that the one on the right is pinpricked in the length of the plate while the left one is pinpricked in the width. This gives a different effect on the plates. No really sure on how I can move this forward so if you have an idea please let me know ..

Have a great thursday!

Sampling

Two samples I made, just trying to see if the idea I had would work. The one on the left would work for me if I had a row of them. The other sample cries for stitch or at least some colour.

Love playing with paper.

Enjoy your wednesday!

Some knotting

Already some time ago I made these samples for my Focus ledger but until yesterday I hadn't tucked them safely away. Finally I had an idea how to embellish the page and it was done in no time. The blue strip on the left is a long wrapped with thread card,  really like the texture of it. To expand on putting bullion knots on to paper a little cluster of knots was made a the tip, totally love that.

Never thought I would fall in love with bullion knots the way I have but I totally love making them.

Have a wonderful tuesday!

These two are holding me company at the moment. Both feeding my mind in a different way. Hope to have some hours this weekend to continue our conversation.

Have a great weekend!

Another road

Still a paper plate although a different shape, blue thread and a different technique to bring it all together. My visit to the exhibition of Sheila Hicks is the most probably source of inspiration here. I really like the outcome and way of working enough to start another one.

Time to start wrapping again.

Enjoy your thursday!

What am I gonna call this dingle dangle?

My latest adventure with my needle and again I haven't made up a proper name yet. Oh well Dingle, dangle will do. So what did I do? Five plates got a border of bullion knots, a circle of running stitch and they got buttonhole laced together. This is the first sample, it was a good experiment and the result is a lovely Dingle dangle.

Have a fabulous wednesday!

Christines billedbog

Last weekend this book was found at a thriftshop. The orginal was a scrapbook made by H.C. Andersen and the grandfather of Christine for whom this book was made. The two gentlemen collected all kinds of images and made some themselves, while travelling, to surprise the girl on her birthday.

Years later on this book was photographed and printed. I love the idea of the two men and will use their images to feed my own inspiration.

Have an inspirational tuesday.

Monday's music

A special edition of Monday's music.

Maggi always enjoyed Monday's music and she loved stopping by to find some shared loved ones or a surprise. This will be the first Monday's music without her. Maggi died last week after being sick for some months. She always had a kind word to share or a funny remark to make, I am and will be missing her willingness to share as bloggy-friends do. Therefore I selected two of her favorite artists, Keith Urban and John Denver, today.

Goodbye my dear Maggi may you rest in peace.

Just a little peak

Another road is found to play with paper plates. It is still very early days and I don't know if I can pull it off but I do hope so. Will put in some serious hours during the weekend and hopefully I can show you the result next week.

Please keep your fingers crossed for me while you enjoy your weekend.

Books

Found myself some new books again at the library. Just love to flip through books, read bits and find new sources of inspiration. These two books come from the Danish Designschool and they have some lovely references to interesting artists.

Time to do some research and have some great fun.

Have a wonderful day.

Paper pocket

Last week I showed you my new paper plate model and today you can see the first little project I did. On a small plate were green and blue paper buttons attached. The new model was put on top, made a little opening first, and sewed the two plates together. A paper pocket filled with memories, a reminder to keep adding lovely memories.

Have a lovely wednesday while making memories.

A new idea

Today something new, so new that I thought of a name yet. These are little circles with fabric and they are meant as an embellishment. The fun is that the fabric can be put flat in the ring which gives a lot of texture or one can pull it out which gives a 3D-effect. They can be used on paper or on cloth.

What do you think? How would you call them?

Have a great tuesday!

New paperplates

This last post of the week is also about my trip to the Netherlands. There is always a lot of shopping done, the most excellent opportunity to get my men into some shops. And although most of the things bought are for them I found something that made me very happy. I found another version of paper plate. When husband saw me beaming he said: "You're so easy to please" ..
No idea what I'm gonna do with them but since I bought 40 plates there is undoubtely another series in the air. On the left you see a sample I already made before, weaving on a plate. It is the first one and therefore it is truly early days to say anything about that road.

Have a wonderful weekend and keep travelling even if it is just in your mind!
