Focus on wednesday

Today's instrument to keep Focus has some paper buttons, little containers to store memories. It is a very simple since only a running stitch is used.  The texture is given by the fact that the buttons are pinpricked out of a plate. Furthermore some have the right side up while others show only their backside. Have to say: I'm really a big fan of paperbuttons.

Have a lovely wednesday.

Three books

Last week I got some new books from the library. Since I liked to hang out with them I thought I'd better write you a note about them.

The first one is Scandinavian Needlecraft by Clare Youngs. Like the style of the book and the instructions are easy to follow.

Artfully Embroidered by Naoko Shimoda. Gorgeous book with some lovely bags in it. Measurements are given in centimeters and in inchs, and all the stitches which are used are explained just as in Scandinavian Needlecraft.

The last book is called: The art of manipulating fabric by Colette Woff. Big book with lots and lots of info and pictures. If you want to use it extensively than having an intimate relationship with your sewing machine is necessary. I just look at the pictures to get inspired by the possibilities.

Enjoy your trip to the library or the bookshop.

Monday's music

A bit of dillemma today since I haven't really heard a song in the past week that can give a lift off to our new week. This doesn't mean I haven't heard anything interesting because I came across this podcast and I liked the story ... or maybe just because MacGyver crossed my path again.  Here is the link to the podcast with Lee Zlotoff, the writer of the MacGyver-stories.

Enjoy your week!

Focus on cloth

Another brick on my blue wall is layed. Three leaves stitched in a simple stemstitch, one is partial filled with french knots. Maybe you think I forgot a little bit or maybe not ready yet, that's not the case ... autumn has started around here and this will remind me when I stitched this.

Why three leafs? That's a long story which I already told you over a year ago. So if you don't remember or weren't hanging out here back than ... here is the link to that post.

Enjoy your friday and have a fabulous start of your weekend.

Focus ledger

This is the second page in the ledger and this time I worked with the theme of this project: Focus. Plates were pinpricked, some were painted blue while other kept their own colour but all got their own stitch. A running stitch, a stemstitch, a flat bullion stitch, a french knot and a bullion loop.  I really love how things came together.

Enjoy your thursday.

Focus on wednesday

Today I want to give you another plate this time with seeds of hope. The seven is referring to the 7-generation principle. The number 5 is for me the number of change and that is also happening during the lifetime of 7 generations. One feeling still will be around and it will never change ... hope.

Have a wonderful wednesday.

The giftpocket for Emil

Fourteen days ago I showed you the pocket I made for Arnaud and since his stepson has his 18th birthday on the same day I decided to make him a giftpocket too. Same style, same colours but only the form is different.

I really like this mini-collection of gift-pockets for men. What do you think?

Focus on cloth

This week I made a collage for you of the progress I made on the blue cloth. Have to say that I find it very hard to make a good photograph of this blue cloth. Each time the colour appears differently. The colour in the left picture is the most accurate and in this picture you can see my long wrapped threads woven. I noticed that a fair number of bricks have some 3-d embellishment on them. That wasn't really planned but simply happen to be.

Let's see with what I come up next week.

Enjoy your weekend.

Focus ledger

Time to reveal the first page of the third layer of this project called Focus. I made it about the 7-generation-principle. It is a lot of information for one page but I do love it and for me it feels great to see how all of it comes together.

Hope you feel just as excited about your own project.

Enjoy your thursday.

For the love of a towel

Last week I saw a towel hanging in our bathroom like this and for some reason I was totally taken by it. Kept coming back to it, so before the kids got home from school I made a photograph of it. Didn't like the photo very much but that fold. Therefore I decided to make a drawing of it on watercolour paper and paint it. You know what: I love it.

What am I gonna do with it? Probably nothing, I stuck it in my ledger so it is kept neat and clean, there it probably will live for the rest of its days.

Hope you like my litte outing away from my plates.

Enjoy your creative journey's!

Focus on cloth

This week I have been doing a lot of french knots to get this brick ready. Luckily it is a lot of fun making these teeny, tiny knots. The plate looks a little bit different but it is very obvious that these two are related to one another.

Time to move on and start working on the next brick.

Have a grand weekend.

Experiment

Last sunday I made a bunch of textural pictures while walking through the woods. Decided to change things around and gave the pictures a different colour while being in a collage. If you feel you want to see more colour codes than do click to the Trendtablet.

Enjoy your thursday.

Focus on wednesday

It is wednesday again which means another  plate will be put on your table. This plate is more of a texture study, to learn what is possible and what I like or dislike while creating a plate for my embroidery dinner.

Enjoy your wednesday.

Spinning & weaving in the Viking times

Last week I found an article about spinning and weaving during the Viking times. This article is written by Marianne Guckelsberger, who works at the University of Iceland, in 2012. The article is very interesting and down-loadable for those who want it.

Have a lovely day.

Focus on cloth

Another brick is ready on my blue cloth. I do realize that just seeing each time a tiny fragment isn't really exciting or even interesting. Still over time this cloth will be filled and I'm pretty sure that the end result will be more than enjoyable. So please stay tuned.

Have a grand weekend.

arnaud

Last week I showed you the embroidered start. Now I can tell you that I was brave and sewed the backing on with the machine. The letter of invitation to a dinnerparty will be pinned inside. I decided to make something similar for a 18th birthday since he also want a gift that doesn't really need a wrapping. Wish me luck!

Have a lovely thursday.

Focus on wednesday

It is wednesday which means I will have you another paperplate. This plate has two captial C's which is the first letter of connection. Placing them like this reminds me that any community is as strong as its weakest link. Only when people connect there is a community.

Food for thought while focusing on your embroidery meal.

Have a connected wednesday.

Amanda Palmer

Today I want to share a video of Amanda Palmer with you. I have seen this video already a fair number of times simply because I find it hard to ask and this is my way to encourage myself doing so. Decided to share because Amanda also wrote a reply to a fan and I love the way she handled it.

Just some food for thought for the both of us.

Have a lovely day.
