Monday's music

It is monday again which means I found another song. Today as song that was a huge hit during the sixties in the Netherlands. The man who sings it comes from my hometown and that's probably why I like his original better than the others I found on the net. The start of the video isn't great but please just be patient for a few seconds because after than your feet and hips want to be moving.

Have a great start of this new week.

Birthday gift

One of my male friends is turning 60 early next month. He had only one wish and that's I invite him to a dinnerparty and cook him dinner. Now that can be arranged but I also want to give him some sort of present on the day. So I decided to make him a kind of envelope. It isn't done yet, the scary part is postponed already a few times. Yes I have decided to use the sewingmachine to get the back on. Keep your fingers crossed I don't make a mess of things.

Made a cord of some very roughly spun wool with my lucet. The fabric is from a stack of samples I got my mother-in-law which she found in a thriftshop. This way of attaching a cord to the surface I learned from Karen. My version is not so intensely embellished because I want to give the pocket a more male-feeling.

Time to get my machine out and get on with it. Wish me luck.

Focus on wednesday

Another wednesday has arrived and that means I get the chance to show you another plate of my Focus project. Today we focus on love with some cross-stitches and french knots. I admit freely that I'm totally taken with my embroidery dinner. So many ideas and possibilities that I still get totally excited despite the fact that I'm already working on this project since the start of May.

Hope you're working on something that is just as exciting to you.

Have a fabulous wednesday.

Following the doodles

Last week I showed you some of my doodles and this is a continuation of them. I like the shapes but I don't like the painting especially the green. But since learning and making is a journey I decided to share this anyway as a babystep taken.

Have a great tuesday.

Focus on cloth

This is my first finished brick of my blue Focus-cloth. There are 99 bricks but at the moment I have no plan of filling them all although I may change my mind later on.
Some months ago I wrote somewhere: Life is grand but the beauty lies in the details ... and that sentence keeps swirling around in my head. This cloth is 123 x 258 cm which is grand when it is staring you in the face and it needs to be filled with embroidery. The bricks are marked with running stitch are the details. I chose bricks because of the story of Ajahn Brahm and his brickwall.

So this cloth will turn up regularly, each time a new brick will be stitched with a pattern/symbol of on of the plates. Hope you are as excited as I am about this.

Have a great weekend, keep stitching.

Doodles continue

Earlier this week I showed you a doodle-page and I did continue working on it. Slowly, an idea is surfacing and since I'm very, very busy with the Focus project  I thought I better make photographes and record this before things disappear in my archive. A lot more work needs to be done but I'm thinking along the lines of the techniques learned in Doodle, gather, create. Very exciting to think about this ... :-)

Have a wonderful thursday.

Focus on wednesday

Today I have a coloured plate for you. It was lovely to make but somehow this one does not fit in because the colours are way too strong. But it gave me a chance to try something differently and to say: Hej.

Have a lovely wednesday.

Feathers

For a long time now I have been photographing white feathers when I stumble upon them while being out and about. The other day I found the work of Annemette Klit and it reminded me of the leaves of Margareth Kilgallen.

I really like them.

Robert Henri

During our summerholiday I took this book, The Art Spirit of Robert Henri, with me. It is an old book, original printed in 1923 but kept in print for a long time and still available at the library. I learned about the book when Brain Pickings wrote about it.

One particular part I found interesting. It is written in from a male/painter-perspective and I couldn't resist re-writing it.

Embroidery is the expression of ideas in their permanent form. It is giving evidence. It is a study of our lives, our environment. The woman who is useful as an artist is one who studies her own life and records her experiences; in this way she gives evidence. If a woman has something to say she will find a way of saying it. Her heart should be the master, the mind the tool and servant of the heart. The true artist regards her work as means of talking to others, of saying her say to herself and to others. It is not a question of pay. It is not a question of willing acceptance on the part of a the public. If she is welcome and paid it is fine, but whether or not she must say her say.

Art is, after all, only a trace - like a footprint - which shows that one has walked bravely and in great happiness.

Have to say these words work fine for me.

Doodles

The annual Historical Day was held again at the start of August and I couldn't resist walking the grounds of our castle again with my camera ofcourse.

Although the images people generally hold of the viking era is of men, fighting or sailing in their longboats, I decided to make some doodles focused on female stuff and since I enjoyed myself with that excercise I thought I share the result with you.

Lots of possibilities to continue working on in the future.

Focus on wednesday

The jug appeared as a symbol already well over a year ago, time flies when you are having fun. During my twenties I collected jugs and some of them are still standing in the window sill in the kitchen. They represent for me a lovely way of sharing and what better to share than some seeds of hope.

Have a lovely wednesday.

Focus on wednesday

Decided that helleristninger and french knots fit perfectly together. These knots have five wraps and they stand very proud on the plate and I love the groups of three together. I am pretty sure they will re-appear at one time.

Enjoy your wednesday!
