A different kind of selfie

Last year I came across the work of Camilla Catrambone. She made a serie of portraits of family members and since I liked that idea a lot I wanted to created a selfie. Would be fun to do them on a regular base and see changes reflected in them. This picture was taken at the start of January otherwise my paintbox would have been included, .

Have a fabulous day.

Since I couldn't leave it alone

Yesterday, while it snowed outside, I thought about having a picknick and so I created one just for me and you.

Have a fabulous day.

Monday's music

King Winter has now also arrived on my little peninsula and is giving us a nice white blanket outside and therefore some nice music to warm us up again.

New love

This last week I have found a new love. Yes, although I never realized, I love doodling ceramics and watercolour them. Last night I focused on teapots but I also want to do more bowls. This time I used pen to add the outlining.

Maybe all of this is simply because of the endless day of grey days we are having but I hope not since it gives me such happy feeling.

Have a wonderful weekend.

At the library

Today I was at the library and there were some handmade piece on display. Liked the woollen bowls but loved the little sheep on them, thought they were really cute. Unfortunately I have no idea who Jutta Krempin is. As far as I know she doesn't have a homepage or blog or whatever which is too bad since I really liked her work.

Have a fabulous friday.

Painting of an unknown artist

When I arrived today in our classroom the first thing I noticed was that a new painting was on the wall opposite of "my place". It felt like a lovely reminder of the symbolic meaning it carries already for many years but somehow needed to hear it today. I have no idea who made it but I loved the way she signed it!

Have a grand day.

The greyness of the weather, the rain and wind are a bit much to take this year. It is probably therefore that I start craving some bright colours at the moment and couldn't resist to make a small painting for myself.

This is just one painting which can be turned around, a so called two in one! Lately I have been also looking at artwork of J.R.R. Tolkien and like his drawings a lot, here is a video with some of them.

Enjoy your tuesday!

In preparation of

A few weeks ago I got myself enrolled to an online course. This will be my first one and although I know Karen and her work already for years, it still makes me nervous. It will start in the last week of February and is without deadlines and tasks, so no pressure in that department but I thought I better start preparing myself nonetheless. Since there also will be ledger-work I have undusted my paints and played with them in the afternoon while it was raining outside, again I might add.

I really enjoyed myself drawing and painting these jugs and bowl.

Hope you had a lovely sunday afternoon too.

Woman in blue

My woman in blue is finished
I'm so over the moon happy
for asking advice and
waiting til Anneli's gift to arrive.

To me she looks gorgeous, seen from a texture point of view.

Hurray

Have a fabulous start of your weekend!

Oh so lucky

Last monday I already told you that I asked Anneli for help to get the hair of the woman more beautiful. Now I was only in need of advice but Anneli thought differently and sent me this gorgeous wool to make the hair for my lady. I'm so happy with this gorgeous gift although it is way too much for the little head which means I can make at least five more women in blue .... now that might be an idea!

Thank you Anneli for your generous gift which will have a very positiv effect on the lady.

Have a fabulous thursday.

Vidunderlige haven

Some weeks ago I started working in a book with the title Vidunderlige haven, The strange garden of Svend P. Jørgensen. Haven't made much progress just yet but I want to share one page with you.

Enjoy your tuesday!

Imagine

Last week in this post I already told you that I was holding my needle to create a new piece. Well over the weekend I spent some hours to work on it again and today I show you an update.

Yep, french knots all around again, just love these teeny, tiny little buggers. I wanted to top to feel loose, like summer tops can be and there it is done in crochet and than sewed on. The colours are similar but the thickness in thread isn't.

At the moment I'm still working on the hair with the help of Anneli since I'm not pleased about the result at the moment. So you just have to wait until that is ready too.

Have a wonderful day.

Embroidery class

At the start of autumn I started attending an embroidery class for starters and the fun thing is that most of the women who attend aren't starters at all. They are just like me wanting to share time with others who care for embroidery and the creative process. Yesterday we had our first session of 2014 and one of the women brought an amazing book with her called Stitch magic of Jan Beaney and Jean Littlejohn.

And for the record, yesterday I started stitching on this piece and made already some progress although this isn't visible in the picture but a lot of french knots are already made.

Have a lovely day!

Celtic connection

Last April I made a drawing of the Celtic connection symbol and after some mishaps a beautiful Connection symbol was there.

And than nothing happend, the piece simply disappeared in my stash until last november. Another friend of mine had bought a copy of the Anam Cara and it was therefore that the idea appeared to make a book wrapping for it.

Here you can see the inside with my book in it.

And as it turned out the symbol was just as large as the book although not planned and this way a what-if turned into a lovely gift for Christmas.

Have a lovely start of your week.

Linklove

During the Christmas holidays a lovely museum called Trapholt was visited, it is an art museum specialized in furniture. In their shop I saw a book called Bæredygtigt of Mette Jørgensen. Liked the book and so I ordered it from the library. Lucky me, I got it today and to make a long story short I found an amazing link which I really want to share with you! The link is about re-using, repurposing, upcycling, so many amazing projects made all around the world.

So please do yourself and me a favour, please visit Recyclart.

Have a wonderful weekend.

In case you want to know

Last March Lisa sent me some books and one of them was the Anam Cara. Both Lisa and myself are nuts about Celtic symbolism and therefore I decided to make her a little sister-symbol. The colours are from Soul Food because Lisa has started her own version of Soul Food.

This picture shows how the cloth is wrapped around an iron hoop. First a seam was made with a running stitch, than a blanket stitch was added, wrapped it around the hoop and started to crochet until the open space was filled.

So now you know what was in the wrapping cloth.

Have a wonderful weekend.

Having a stash isn't so bad

Some years Anneli sent me some beautiful curtainband, unfortunately for some reason it remained nicely tucked away in my drawers. That was until last november, finally I had an idea on how to use it although the idea has nothing to do with curtains!

The idea came to me while I was sick and unable to move myself, this gave me plenty of time to look at and listen to the work of Karen once more.  I needed something to wrap a special gift in and Karen makes the most gorgeous wrapping clothes one can think off. Now I didn't want to copy her work and so I had to come up with something a bit different and that curtainband just was the perfect item.

The back was an old tablecloth of egyptian cotton with flower weaved in, this because Lisa loves her garden so much.

On the backside some hand embroidered initials were stitched on and no these were not stitched by me but were found in a thriftshop.

After lots and lots of flying stitches the wrapping for Lisa's present was ready and at the same time combining the stories of women I met through blogging. So I don't think it is necessary to say that I loved working on this piece.

Have a wonderful week.
