Have I told you .... III

Have I told you .... by Landanna

Eleven days have come and gone since my last update on this project and therefore I made you a collage of pictures which are taken late at night. In the picture below you can see the result so far, unfortunately the picture isn't much better since another grey day is served at my little peninsula.

Have I told you .... by Landanna

Some additional notes to my last post. It is easier to be unkind or mean to someone than kind and loving because with a locked heart you have nothing at stake. Being kind and loving can only be done with an open heart but will put you at risk of rejection. Still a circle of abuse can only be broken by love and forgiveness and so I can't stop trying.

The next step in this project will be the decision on another symbol and/or text. Your imput is welcome my dear friends, can you give me some directions while I'm here on this crossing?

Have I told you .... II

Last week I posted the first picture of my latest embroidery project and today I have the follow up for you, a very candid one I have to say. Most of you know by now that all my symbols express a special meaning or hold a story, this new project it isn't any different and it's like an update on my journey.

Have I told you .... II by Landanna

The first symbol was completed during the weekend and by now you will recognize it. This symbol was also part of Courtship, for the love of it and of Just because-series. The meaning of this symbol and the explanation of these two projects can be found here.

Have I told you .... by Landanna

The second symbol, the one I'm working on at the moment, is two hands holding. This symbol appeared in one of my dreams and the sentence that went along was: "Our heart is still beating". Liked the idea a lot because two people are expressing their connection when holding hands and it isn't just a romantic gesture although often seen in that light.

The thought/question behind this project is: Why isn't anyone surprised when they get the middle finger while participating in traffic? Why is the f-word used so very often towards people we don't even know? Why is it totally accepted that we blow off steam in anyway we see fit but letting another person know what we like, appreciate about them is becoming a task that makes us feel shy/embarrased/squeamish? Why is the number of people who don't look at each other while having a conversation, growing so rapidly? And I'm not even talking about using the word love because that would open even a bigger can of wurms.

In the Longest post  Julie asked: if you were going to start a revolution, what would be your cause? My answer was: " I'd rather start a revolution on accepting and being in peace with oneself as a step to peace in the world than ...." The link between this post and the longest post is captured in the question: "Are we so angry with ourselves, do we feel so inadequate that lashing out is becoming our way of communicating?

And so I hold my needle while pondering about this theme, thinking of ways of expressing kindness and act on them. Now that you know my thoughts behind this project and the mystery of the symbols has disappeared it is time to start working again

Have a wonderful week and remember the wonders of a smile

Monday's music

Last week some new music found my ears in a very special co-incidental way. The name of band is Falling forward and although the group no longer exists but their music is still there for us to enjoy.

Hope you enjoy it as much as I do.

Have a wonderful first advent week with little miracles of your own.

Have I told you ..., a photo by Landanna on Flickr.
Over the last few weeks I have been thinking, jotting down notes and writing with Lisa about a new project. Had two false starts, chose the wrong material to work on but I have the feeling that I'm finally on my way again. Which means I have something to share again. Have a wonderful day with a lot of stitching. Elizabeth

Why, oh why

do I live in a house of brick

when

each time my heart melt, breaks and comes to live again

by looking

at the warmth of wood touched by hands so capable.

Another card

Now and again there is a sentence whirling around in my mind, sometimes it end up on a scrap of paper that is laying beside my bed or in my notebook. There is a sentence that turns up time and again lately. Maybe because of the little reminders, like this one, this one or this piece of music and then again maybe none of them, maybe I'm just reading too much newspapers. Anyway, a new card is made with the sentence and it gives us something to ponder over a little bit more.

Monday's music

Last week I was a little bit early to pick up my little one and I heard some music. It sounded so beautiful that I had to find out where it came from. Silently I walked in a schoolconcert, the children were all sitting very still totally captured by a gorgeous voice. Today I want to share that experience with you.

Have a wonderful start of your week.

Carl Gustaf Bernardson

Målning av CG Bernhardson

While being in Götenborg last year I visited Bohusläns Museum and saw these gorgeous paintings of Carl Gustaf Bernardson. He lived from 1915 til 1998 and was a Swedish folkpainter. After he died his 526 paintings were given to Bohusläns Museum. Unique for his paintings is that he wrote on the backside of each painting with a pensel about the scene he had painted.

Målning av CG Bernhardson

What I liked about these paintings were the subtle colors and especially how he painted the blue sky, the water and snow.

Målning av CG Bernhardson

More information about his life is available but only in Swedish, here is the link and you can also see more paintings by just one click. (Scroll down and click on one of the red words.) If you have the chance to visit Bohusläns Museum I promise you, you will be surprised by their collection.

Have a beautiful day filled with inspiration.

Monday's music

We all drink to forget
Some of us more than most
When reality gets too real
And the fires of hell to close
But I'm here to let you know that
That you can make it through
If you believe that someone is watchin' over you

And call it an angel
Call it a muse
And call it karma that you've got comin' to you
What's the difference
What's in name
What matters most is never ever losin' faith
'Cause it's gonna be alright
You're not alone tonight

We all have our days
When nothing goes as planned
Not a soul in the world
Seems to understand
And for someone to talk to
You'd give anything
Well go on and cry out loud
'Cause someone's listenin'

Yeah, and call it an angel
Call it a muse
And call it karma that you've got comin' to you
What's the difference
What's in name
What matters most is never ever losin' faith
'Cause it's gonna be alright
You're not alone tonight

Keep your faith alive
You're not the only one

Yeah, and call it an angel
Call it a muse
Call it karma that you've got comin' to you
What's the difference
What's in name
What matters most is never ever losin' faith
Yeah, you're gonna be alright
You're not alone tonight

Oh you can cry if you want to, go on

Have a great start of your week.

Embroidery of children

Today I have some pictures for you which I forgot to post but are simply to lovely to be kept in hiding.

The two embroidery pieces made by two children hung also in the Bohusläns Museum. I visited this museum last year while we were in Sweden.

Hope you are gonna have some wind in your sails today.

Lis Paludan

Recently another book of Lisa Paludan entered my house. It is old editon in Dutch from the 70's but still lovely enough to enlarge my collection.

It looks so attractive with the little mirrors.

Just a drawing from the book but wouldn't it be great to embroider this one with a lot of french knots in different shades of blue?!

This is the embroidered version Lis made.

And this horse reminded me of some beautiful pieces Anneli made.

I'm always keep my eye out for some vintage embroiderybooks on fleamarkets and find it strange that it is really hard to find them. They are probably treasured big time by their owners!

Enjoy your day stitching.

Monday's music

Although it looks like this blog is becoming a Monday's music-blog that's not my intention. My excuse for my absence last week was a holiday. This means lot of preparation, time away and a pile of laundry like the Preikestolen is waiting for me at this very minute. And again I hardly did anything creative during my absence.

"Far Away"

This time, This place
Misused, Mistakes
Too long, Too late
Who was I to make you wait
Just one chance
Just one breath
Just in case there's just one left
'Cause you know,
you know, you know

That I love you
I have loved you all along
And I miss you
Been far away for far too long
I keep dreaming you'll be with me
and you'll never go
Stop breathing if
I don't see you anymore

On my knees, I'll ask
Last chance for one last dance
'Cause with you, I'd withstand
All of hell to hold your hand
I'd give it all
I'd give for us
Give anything but I won't give up
'Cause you know,
you know, you know

So far away
Been far away for far too long
So far away
Been far away for far too long
But you know, you know, you know

I wanted
I wanted you to stay
'Cause I needed
I need to hear you say
That I love you
I have loved you all along
And I forgive you
For being away for far too long
So keep breathing
'Cause I'm not leaving you anymore
Believe it
Hold on to me and, never let me go
Keep breathing
'Cause I'm not leaving you anymore
Believe it
Hold on to me and, never let me go
Keep breathing
Hold on to me and, never let me go
Keep breathing
Hold on to me and, never let me go

The song today is Far away from Nickelback and I hope you'll never let me go despite all my faults.

Have a great start of your week.

Monday's music

In a few weeks I will be attending an 80'-party which means I need to do some preparations. Therefore I decided to take one of these songs for you.  The song is called Broken wings from Mr. Mister.

What is your favourite song of the 80's?

Have a wonderful start of your week.

Monday's music

Last night I prepared for this post and I have to say it was a hard job to find something to my liking. Luckily for all of us I did manage, ...

The song for this week is What can I do from The Corrs

Besides the song I also have a poem for you which I like a lot. Found it in a book called The unknown sea by David Whyte. In You-Tubeland there is a video of the poet reading this lovely piece. Unfortunately blogger won't let me post two video's so for this one you have to perform your own magic and click.
Have a wonderful week filled with all the magic you wish for

Clothposter Past, present & future

The clothposter is ready

written in several shades of blue

except for one

each word telling a story about me

reflecting my past, my present and my hopes for the future

In the first clothposter I wrote you & me, again these two words can be found as an expression of the relationship between the person looking at the cloth and me

And ofcourse an overview.

Enjoy

My vinegar journey

Two weeks ago I updated you for the last time on my vinegar- experiment. As you can see in the picture above the pink vinegar has become even more pink. I added again new red peels and started the process over again so to say.

In the second picture on the right you see the first attempt in this project and yes the colour has become darker over time. The attempt on the left is a totally new one with Holsteiner apples with a very light colour.

To me this is fun and a very satisfying endeavour, I wish I had a large cellar so I could experiment at large but for now a cupboard has to do. New experiments are on the way, hope you are just as excited about this as I am.

Have a wonderful day.

Monday's music

Have been searching high and low to find a song that would make us smile. Nothing gave me that something special until I found the song in the video below. The good thing is, it helps us too to start making our Christmas wishlist.

Did a smile appear on your face?

Have a wonderful start of your week.

An experiment II

Today an update on my vinegar-project. As you can see in the left part of the picture there is definitely a difference in colour. So the question does the colour of the peel influence the colour of the vinegar the answer is yes. Now for the sake of experimenting I added new red peels to the pinky vinegar just to see if the vinegar will get stronger.

The right part of the picture might be even more exciting. You have to look closely but when you look you see a white line from top to bottom. This line is more or less transparant and therefore I had to use some photographic tricks to make if more visible for you. In dutch it is called a moer, still have to find the english translation but that can wait, since I have a waiting period ahead of me again.

Past, present and future

Another update on the second clothposter and although I can see that I'm almost have way I have the feeling I just started. The strange thing is that I need more protection around my fingers, still have to get used to the softness of the fabric. Still it is a lot of fun writing down words with a backstitch and I already know that I love this piece.

How are you projects coming along?

Monday's music

A special song for you today. The song was released for the first time in 1967 and covered numerous times.

Still there is one version that has stolen my heart

This is my tribute to you. A song for all the friends I never met but somehow always show up at my doorstep when this Dutch girl needs some wind beneath her wings. Thank you!

Have a fabulous week and know your smile is worth millions.

Past, present and future

A very sneak preview of a new project. After all the jeans-projects it is time to dive into something new, something soft, something like a clothposter. You probably remember the first clothposter of the serie Courtship, for the love of it, more pictures you can see here.

This time the clothposter will contain a random set of words which are reminders of stories of my past, the present and hopes for the future. Since blue is still my all time favorite colour, the thread is blue. Yes I know I'm full of surprises!

Time to start working again. Enjoy yourself with all the special projects you are creating.

An experiment

As soon as August comes around I feel like making my vinegars again so that I have some sunshine during the winter. This year I decided to start really totally from scratch. Never made any vinegar from scratch before and therefore I started reading and reading a little bit more. Some information showed lenghty processes while the book you see in the picture made it as easy as it could be.

I had to give it a try. I peeled the apples, put it in the jar, poured over some water and left it for 3 weeks. Yes, that's the method and magically vinegar appeared. It is no balsamico by any means but the fun I have while trying makes up for that. I used very green apples for this experiment. Next time I want to find deep red apples and see if that influences the colour and taste of the vinegar.

Did you ever made your own vinegar from scratch? If yes, please share.

A wonderful evening

Since I have been complaining about the Danish monsoon time and again, I feel it is only fair if I also show you a day when I just love living on my little peninsula. Yesterday was such a day. The sun was shining, the air crisp and clear and a lovely temperature to wrap it all up. After dinner I went for a walk, with camera ofcourse, and I felt so happy and lucky, it was just perfect.

Can you see why?

Hope your monday was just as wonderful.

Enjoy yourself and don't forget to smile.

Monday's music

Just like last week I'm gonna take a song from one of my eye-candy expeditions. The name of the artist is Dave Edmunds and I think it is a jolly good start of this monday morning.

Monday's music

Most of you know that I'm also creating a project of 365 photographs, each day one picture during a year, on Flickr. Because of this I'm spending also time to look at pictures of others. Just the other day I was very lucky. Found a beautiful picture but more importantly it led me to some new music.

And what do you think?

Have a great start of your week.

On request

After my discarded helleristninger-project I had to come up with something else. All I knew was that I wanted to work with denim again. My eye saw how well used my friend was and so that was gonna be my new project. In the picture below you can see my confidant who keeps everything safe.

So Anneli, Lisa & Maggi here are some pictures of my current project. Remember it isn't finished yet but I managed to do the main part and so I feel confident enough that I can finish this project, made for my love of blue.

Thanks you all for your encouraging support.

Monday's music

This week I want to share with you the music of a special lady. For me her voice is one that live and loves, one that has seen the dark corners as well as the sunny beaches. Let me introduce ms. Bonnie Raitt with the song Feels like home.

If you have the time, Love has no pride and Do I ever cross you mind are definitely worth listening too as well.

Enjoy the music and the start of the week.

Got myself a present

In my post Strange habit you could already read how I collect ideas/links/etc. for my blogfriends. But they also return the favour I have to admit. Just before I went on holiday I got a mail from an excited Julie and she told me about an embroidery book written by Tilleke Schwarz. Immediately I went over to Tilleke's home and read all I could but because I went on holiday I had to postpone my order.

But now I own this wonderful book. For me it is great read and a feast of recognition despite the fact our artwork is totally different. So thank you Julie for thinking of me and thanks Tilleke for making the effort to write a book with lots of detailed pictures and funny texts.

(If anyone comes across the book Mark making by Tilleke please let me know since this book is no longer available)
