Despite the cold during our winterholiday of which I told you yesterday I did go for some walks with my camera ofcourse. I saw freshly made patterns everywhere. Karen of Stitching Life was the one who made me aware of them.

And therefore I say thank you, Karen. If you would like to see more pictures, just jump to this place.

Have a great day finding your own smiling patterns.

Courtship, for the love of it XIII

Before the week comes to a close again I want to show you another update on the clothposter. The picture is taken just before it was time to turn in again. Clothposter was on my table and I was totally smitten for a moment by what I had accomplished in one evening. The picture isn't perfect but the time I spent was.

Have a perfect weekend with a knowing smile.

A small dedication to my hoops today. During the winterholidays we got a fresh load of snow, icy winds and some beautiful sunshine. At one of these moments I saw my hoops laying on my old working table waiting to be picked up again.

I didn't have the time nor the patience to sit down and disappear into my embroidery-bubble, so I took my camera and made some pictures of my loved ones.

Do you also have a favorite place and item to work with?

Have a gorgeous day filled with a knowing smile.

Courtship, for the love of it XII

The picture above was taken at the end of an evening filled with holding my needle. The symbol told me about patience, about looking for small details but most of all about connecting.

Have a mindful day with a loving smile.

Courtship, for the love of it XI

Today a sunny update on the clothposter of Courtship. This is the corner on the upper right which gave me some trouble of finding the right words. They needed to be short and have some sort of connection, this is the result of my pondering. Courtship is all about you and me, the rest of the world isn't that important, more a nuisance than a contributor to the special feelings attached to courtship.

Hope you are having a loving day with lots of you & me, sharing that special smile.

In need of a confession
Courtesy of My ballroom dancing shoes

During the winterholidays my dear Zuzana took it upon herself to introduce me to Susan Deborah of Meanderings and Reflections and I am glad, very glad she did. But little did she know that this trip along the meaderings of Susan Deborah would take me back to my teenage years. Susan Deborah wrote a post about Jim Reeves and a door of memories opened. His music took me back to the days of swirling on the dancefloor. Back to the slowfox, the elegant waltz and sparkling quickstep. Although I know that I will never be taken for a spin again that doesn't mean my heart and feet long for it. Therefore I wrote this small dedication to my dancing days while I let you enjoy a song of Jim Reeves called I love you because.

Thank you ladies for this unexpected gift.
Have a lovely day with a dancing smile.

Courtship, for the love of it X

In my art-journal I already made this symbol in wool but I couldn't resist to draw it again and outline it with a deep dark purple pencil and color the inside with watercolor paint.

After that I painted the symbol I knew I had to embroider it. Made a start and became aware that this symbol is probably the most important new symbol I ever made despite the fact that Soul Food is totally filled with symbols. Maybe I am getting a bit carried away by this symbol. Still this eloquent, simple symbol can become a wonderful teacher.

Many more hours of embroidery lay ahead and I am looking forward to be holding my needle and listening to some loving music.

Thanks for stopping by and leaving your kind responses, they are the tokens of travelling together. Next week I won't visit landanna since we have the winterholiday.

Enjoy yourself with a huge smile because with your smile you make more life beautiful.

Courtship, for the love of it IX

Today I have an update for you on the courtship clothposter. It is almost done, but I am running in a little bit of trouble which is called the lack of planning. I didn't plan anything, made no pattern on how the words were suppose to be sewn on the cloth. The result is that I am now running out of small words to make everything fit together. So if you can think of a word that you feel is related to courtship, please let me know. Thanks.

Have a day of wonder with an asking smile.

A bag but not made by me

Last week our eldest son came home with a bag he made at school. He used a sewing machine to stitch and embellish it and he made the cords.  Since I have just about zero skills on the sewing machine he is gonna teach me next week during the winterholidays!!!!

Have a lovely day with a smile of a novice.

Another dye-experiment

Today I like to show you another experiment. Since there was still so much dye left I decided to make a kind of fingerpaint with it and use my feet as stamps. This is the result in which not only my feet are visible but because the paint is a liquid it spread also a little bit around the feet, like an energyprint we leave behind.

Have a great start of your week with a smile of new beginnings.

The end result of my new dye

Here you can see the final result of the avocado-dye with shibori-effect. The colour became warm and cozy and has a beautiful feel. Furthermore the process gave me a surprise to me. I dyed a duvet cover and I didn't take it apart before I dyed it. The result is that the inside has a different shade of pink. The outside is more brownish pink while the inside is a brighter pink. I tried to photograph the difference but with the beautiful stormy weather we have it is difficult to photograph the difference really well.

Thank you all for stopping by this last week and leaving your comments and encouraging emails behind. They are such a treasure to get each day.

Have a fantastic weekend with many smiles.

A new dye

This picture was taken while the cloth was still dripping wet and the sun was shining. My attempt of shibori with the sun shining through was just worth to take a picture off.

Here you can see it washed, dryed and ironed. Yes, another avocado-peel-dye. Collected the peels of a number of avocado's and let them dry. When they became totally wrinkled I boiled them for 20 minutes and let them soak for a couple of days. I had a baby seize cottoncover so that one went into the dark liquid. Again patience has to do the trick and therefore only after a couple of days I took it out of the pot.

Got surprised because the inside of the cover is more pinkish while the outside leans towards a brown color. Oh how lucky one can get.

Have a day filled with colorful smiles.

A conversation stuck in my head

Last week I had another appointment with my eye-doctor, everything is still going fine. After the appointment it was time to have some tea, talk and fun and so I met with Jude in S√łnderborg. Somehow we started talking about rules and traditions and how people stick to them no matter what. That conversation is now stuck in my head and therefore I made this collage as a visualization of it. I want to keep it because I see an embroidery piece in it.

Have a lovely day filled with a infectious smile on your face to chase away the greyness of january.

Lately I have been travelling a lot, well in my mind at least. Reading about Detroit, about meditation, about courtship and do it yourself in a sustainable way. Sometimes a single sentence or a few seconds in a movie can make such a huge impact that I want to create my idea right than and there. Sometimes I act like an huge pit that can't get enough to be forfilled. This is the place were I am at the moment. I have this huge craving that draws me to read and see more of Detroit and the DIY-movement at the same time I create less. My folders are growing day by day, travelling without knowing where I am going.

All of this means less time to hold my needle and creating but a surplus of ideas that needs time to mold, channeled in a way that feels like me. It is a good feeling because my world growing.

What is keeping your busy with a smile lately?
