Result of my give-away gift

You probably remember that I won the give-away from Amelia a few weeks ago. Since she gave me a collage package I felt I had to make the most of it. As you can see my glueing techniques need some work but otherwise I like the result.

Yesterday I showed you the pencase which I saw at my taekwondo weekend. Deanna of Eclectic- Meanderings was so kind to give me a link with a method of how to sew the zipper in which I share ofcourse with you. Thanks Deanna for your help.

This might become my next project outside my comfortzone. Did you do a project lately in an unusual technique for you lately?

Have a fantastic day with or without snow.

Special weekend

This weekend was a special weekend to me since I had a getaway to a trainingsfacility to become a qualified taekwondo trainer. This taekwondoclub had two very large dojang and we had a great time hearing about all the different aspects of training and ofcourse we also had some time to do some physical activities. The two pictures you see are decorations on the wall.

But I wouldn't be me if I hadn't noticed one of the pencases. This girl had a really beautiful pencase made of recycled old newspapers. The toplayer was made of thin plastic to protect the paper.

The pencase was made by Ecoist .

Hope you had a great weekend too. Have fun today and I'll see you tomorrow.

Vintage embroidery for everyday

The thriftshop has from time to time vintage-sheets with wonderful embroidery pieces incorporated with it. Takes my breath away to see the details these women incorporated into something so common as sheets.

Hope you have enjoyed yourself and wish you a wonderful day.

Lucky me!!!!

A very soft piece of silk landed in my mailbox together with a note and a card. How lucky can I get. Thank you Karen for your kindness.

Last night I found some new music I would like to share with you. It is from a band called Cronies Nest. They only made six songs, as far as I know, but they are beautiful to me. Enjoy!!!!

Have a fabulous start of your week.

Maps of Longing III

Today I want to show you one of the textile paintings in this serie I'm still working on. I'm totally excited about this one because it will be filled up with the Bayeux-stitch. Never used this stitch before and it is giving me some challenges but I will get there.

Since this is a small serie on larger panels than I normally use I decided to sign this serie. In the photo above you can see how I did that. Used this technique before in the piece for Tony.

Last night Anneli posted the most beautiful, original piece I have ever seen, it is a viking helmet and if you are at Bockfilz look at her beautiful embroidered a helleristning. Two girls in love with Vikings, what can I say.

Have a day filled with inspiration.

Maps of Longing II

Throughout our lives we walk around
Throughout our lives we search
We search for a place
A place that makes us feel welcome
A place that makes us feel whole
We travelled through the desert
And deserted streets
Just to find the treasure of life.

Today I have two songs for you. The first one is from The Beatles Here comes the sun, the second one is from Alvin Lee called I'm going home.

Have a great day with sunny weather while you travel.

Maps of Longing

Today I start a new small serie within the Changing the landscape-project. This small serie is called Maps of Longing and consist three textile paintings. Now as you can probably can see the backgrounds are made of deep purple wool. To make this post a little more interesting I will give you a link to a very interesting documentary on Vikings which perfectly fits within the meaning of this serie. The documentary consists of four parts and this is the link to part one.

Have a great start of your week.

Changing the landscape XI

It felt icy outside but the sun was shining so I couldn't resist taking pictures outside. Today I have an textile painting in red for you with a piece of embroidery I made some time ago. The book Philosophy never materialized the way I wanted it so I used on page to make this one.

Thank you all for joining me this week while travelling through Landanna. Have a fantastic weekend and I'll see you on monday.

Lucky me again!!!!

You don't know it but I have a great friend in the random number generator!!!! Yes, I won another give-away. This time the give-away of Karen. Now, lucky me, it isn't the first time I won something over at her place. The gift you see in the picture above is my first one and is still waiting for me to use it. I know in which project I want to use them but the project has materialized yet.

You probably don't know it but Karen and I have more incommon than just embroidery. You know what? Music. So on the off occasion we sent music to each other. This time I let you join the party and enjoy some music. Clip no. 1. Clip no. 2, clip no. 3 and clip no. 4 Hope you like my selection of live music.

So now the only thing I need to do is to watch out for my bare legged mailman.

Have a great day.

A talented lady

Last weekend I met Jytte Pedersen again in our local library. You might remember her name, she was one of the ladies in this textile-exhibition. Started talking, went home to fetch this book, back to the library and did some more talking.
Later on she sent me these two pictures of quilt-paintings she made. She dyed the fabric, embroidered the faces, quilted the piece together and stamped the helleristninger on it.

Nowadays Jytte concentrates on her painting. If you also see her work made in her own studio you know why I call her a talented lady.

Have a fantastic day.

The sunlight in the fall

We had the most gorgeous weather this weekend.

So we took a stroll in the forest near Gråsten.

The trees were high,

the sky pale blue,

the air crisp.

I even came across with half the symbol I used in Soul Food.

The colours were a feast for my eyes.

Have a great start of your week.

Shoebox surprise

Most of you will remember my shoebox-project of last spring. Today this shoebox is featured on the blog of the Textile Arts Center in New York and therefore I want to welcome everyone who stops by Landanna for the first time. For those of you who never visited the place of the Textile Arts Center in blogosphere please do because you can find lots of inspiring people and articles on textile arts.

Now we just have to keep our fingers crossed that the organizers of the Shoebox-project will invite some artists who work with textile in their next fundraiser. Just to add a little bit more inspiration on the possibilities of textile take a look at the work of Theresa Honeywell.

Have a fantastic weekend and I'll see you on monday.

Changing the landscape IX

In the serie Changing the landscape I made another small helleristning painting in thread. For now it will be the last one in this serie with the Viking babywool blue and purple which I brought home from Norway.

I want to thank everyone who stopped by at Landanna, thanks for the comments and the mails. Have a great weekend and I'll will see you next week.

Pictures, pictures, pictures

Last weekend we went to Rømø, a peninsula on the westcoast of Danmark.

Visited a local museum.

Today I serve you some images....

of the house of a rich sea-captain.

It was a small exhibition....

but worth seeing.

Have a lovely day.

A creation by co-incidence

The other day I needed to wash a piece of cloth because the drawing I made wasn't working out. Since I had already embroidered on it a large piece of thread was hanging at the back. After the washing, drying and ironing I was ready to put it way when all of a sudden I saw the outline of beautiful face made by the thread on the back. I fell in love with the little nose, the sensual lips and small chin. Very carefully I hung the piece of cloth with some tape on the window and photographed it.

Have a wonderful day with a sweet co-incidence.

Changing the landscape VIII

Another helleristning textil painting in the blue serie for you today. This particular stone carving made me ponder about its meaning. My explanation is that the circles are two individuals, the small lines on the side make them connected, the large oval is our earth. So two human beings are connected in a special way while living at this planet.

What is your interpretation?

Have a wonderful day.

PS. SBCMOM, you wrote that you wanted to participate in the christmas ornament swap. Unfortunately the link you provided doesn't work so I cannot contact you. Please drop a line at my email address.

Bird of love and hope II

The embroidery-piece of The bird of love and hope was still waiting in my basket of unfinished projects to be finished. It only needed a knitted background and the last little details put in place. This weekend I finally got around to it.

Now it is ready and this bird is ready to fly.

Have a fantastic start of your week.
