A summernight

The pictures of today are from a sunset seen from our garden at 9.45 PM.

Slowly some evening clouds are coming by.

The wonder of summernights.

Time to say goodbye for now. It is summer and that means time for a break from the daily grind. Have a marvellous time with whatever your summer brings and I hope to see you again soon.

On a silly day I made a silly hat for a silly boy

This hat is made on a day when it was 30 degrees celsius. The fantasy- hat was a wish from our little boy. He decided that he wanted to have a new woollen hat in red. These scraps of wool were still in my stash and so I forfilled his wish and made his explanation reality.

When was the last time you filled a whimsical wish?

Have a fantastic day, enjoy yourself.

Wooden shoes

Some old wooden shoes of the children which are now on display in the garden.

These are still used.

And with these wooden shoes I made the Dutch flag, almost.

Have a great day!!!!

Our new fireplace

A few weeks ago I showed you around in our garden with all its beach-elements. A new place is added, our own fireplace. Made with stones which we found on the beach, ofcourse.

These pictures I took on our first night at the fire.

What is your favorite place to hang out?

Enjoy yourself.

The other day

The other day I had a talk with Anneli about ways to re-use materials and our search for new ideas. That conversation stirred things up for me. So while I was making dinner, I also cut up a plastic bag in strips. Found a hook, which was on a walkabout in the kitchen windowsill, I made this little piece.

As you can see in the first picture I used a bag made of very thing plastic. The thicker the plastic the more sturdy the result.

This technique could be useful if you wanted to make your own bathroom-baskets or baskets in general. Each time the basket will get its own personality, depending on the plastic bag you cut in strips.

Well, hope I got you started to think of your own recycling project. If you have an idea, please let me know because sharing ideas to stop the waste of materials is good for all of us.

Have a lovely day.

Children's art at school

Here you can see one of the places where the paintings of the children are shown.

The dramatic expression is what caught my attention in these paintings.

What has caught your eye lately?

A random act of kindness

Last week I visited Necessary room of Se'Lah. Se'Lah is a talented lady and she organizes all kinds of get togethers. This time she asked us to participate into the celebration of the birthday of the Dalai Lama by a random act of kindness today. That is something I love to do.

My act of kindness today was saying hello to everybody who I met on the street, a project I have been doing already for some time. Furthermore I cleared away a a pile of large cardboardboxes with merchandise which had fallen down in the groceryshop. I put the merchandise, which was lying all over the floor, back in the cardboardboxes.  When I had paid my own groceries, I told the shopassistant about the accident, which wasn't caused by me and asked if she could secure the pile better so no accidents would happen again. These kind of actions on my part happen frequently because I dislike the Oh that is not my problem- attitude.
Ofcourse I had also an act of kindness towards our kids at home. Since it is their summerholiday they were alllowed to stay in their pj's all day, they love that.
My last act was on the internet. I just commeted more than I use to do because I know how important it is to get some reponse on a post.

These were my acts of kindness today and tomorrow I get a new chance of acting kindly. Thank you Se'Lah for the invitation to participate and for your kind comment on my blog today.

Hope everybody has a lovely evening.

Eye candy from a sculpturepark

A lazy sunday afternoon a few weeks back. This time we decided not to go the beach but visit the sculpturepark Augustiana on our island.

Tomorrow we continue our walk through the park.

Have a day filled with sunshine.

Epilogue on magnificent windows

Yes, I remember what I said. Still, at the end of last week I felt like I opened a window. No idea which window, nevertheless it felt so strong that I decided to draw and paint this one into my art-journal. And since I have taken you on this trip, you also deserved the open window.

Which window would you like to open?

Have a fabulous start of your week.

Magnificent windows VII

Art is the window to man's soul.
Without it, he would never be able to see beyond his immediate world;
nor could the world see the man within.
Lady Bird Johnson

More photographs of this place you can see here.

                                                  Photographes made by B.G. Adams

Some of you already know that I love to write little stories with songtitles. Since this project is also about music I wrote one for the occasion.

Slowly I crossed the bridge over troubled water and ended the war. The words of suspicious minds did sent me on a journey of how do you mend a broken heart. I travelled the country roads, saw the smoke on the water of the river, met the city blues on several occasions. Always willing to try to look outside my window. My ballad of youth made me see that I choose love and I don't give up, the clock says:'Tick tock' but everything I do, I do it straight from my heart. While the angels of twilight walk on by I feel like dancing in the street. I am just like you and an open road with good times lies ahead. We maybe we are living on a prayer but we enjoy this side of paradise, the paradise by the dashboard light

For now this is the last post in this series. I want to thank all the writers, the musicians and the photographers for their contribution to this project. I want to thank you for stopping by at Landanna. But most of all I want to thank the person who filmed the seconds from 0.26 til 0.30 in this documentary. These seconds were the pebblestone for this project.

Have a fabulous weekend.

Magnificent windows VI

Your assumptions are your windows on the world.
Scrub them off every once in a while, or the light won't come in.
Alan Alda

The journey of magnificent windows is slowing coming to an end.

Magnificent windows is as much about windows and their meaning as it is about music. This drawing in thread is not a random place, it is The Warehouse music-studio in Vancouver, Canada. The word warehouse means a place for storage of goods. This warehouse is a music-studio, a storage place of music.

Let me tell you about all the little messages this pieces has for me. I used an outline stitch to symbolize all the layers of this project because it feels like stitching layer on layer. The thread itselfs symbolizes friendship. I got this beautiful cotton thread from Anneli, one of my dear blogfriends. Everyone needs a friend especially when one is on the road.

How musicians look through their window is what they are telling us about. Time after time the topic of the lyrics might be the same but the way a performing artist expresses herself/himself gives the angle, her or his point of view.

Magnificent windows is embroidered on flanel because flanel is warm, absorbent and it gives me a feeling of being home. Maybe that is why it has been so popular with musicians.

The drifwood frame symbolizes artists on the road, drifting from one place to the next. The pictures of magnificent windows I took outside on the terrace because that way I could symbolize the different roads travelled through the wooden planks.

Decided that this is my tribute to all the musicians who sang so softly in my ear or shouted their song at the top of their lungs to me. No thank you will ever express my feelings. My gratitude for their company while travelling through life is engraved in my soul.

We can never see reality because reality is the sum of experiences articulated in words.

Have a day filled with all your love.
