Soul Food (part 49)

Recently I read a post over at Anthony's place about locks and keys which inspired me to make my own lock so I remember the heart shaped locks and the lesson they hold for me.

Elsita wrote last december that I had opened the door a little bit. With that lovely post she wrote and the pictures of my work, my journey in blogland really began. I'm still grateful that I made the jump and started blogging because I enjoyed your lovely, encouraging company ever since.

Have a wonderful day.

Soul Food (part 48)

This symbol I found at Jenna's place and stands for harvest. For me it is a reminder not just to sow and weed but also enjoy the fruits of my labour, something I'm not really good at.

Have a cup of nice hot tea or coffee, I'm serving applepie today. They are made from scratch and I include them as a reminder for myself of a lesson learned.

Have a fantastic day.

Soul Food (part 47)

As promised last friday I show you today the symbols we created together. The picture above is created while thinking about the 'talks' I had with Julie and shows cooperation. The two hands are made of two kinds of felt which stands for two people. The circle they are holding is the earth. The earth gives us a place to live and at the same time is our very big store cupboard. Although our store cupboard is very big it doesn't mean we should plunder because we can. No, we have to learn ourselves to be more careful because the stock is not only for us but also for our children and the generations to come.

Julie helped me to create this one by showing some posters for drugs against headaches. Although I didn't duplicate the idea, it lead to this symbol for headaches.

One last symbol, this one expresses longing. Karen has made and written several pieces about her swaddling bands. While reading some old blogentries I came up with the idea above. I created a place to keep or put all my emotions in, so that my need to keep the people I love safe doesn't interfere with their ideas, wishes and needs. But like always, if you can put something in, there is also a possibility of escape. It was a lot of fun making this one because first I embroidered the heart, than I crocheted on the heart and than embroidered the heart once again. Never done this but it works fine.

Wish you a very creative week and thank you so much for your help.

Soul Food (part 46)

This is my symbol for pay it forward. I read the book of Catherine Ryan Hide during a special time in my life and love the concept of this idea.

And this symbol shows that we all have several choices. Making and sharing the symbols of Soul Food is my choice and I'm very grateful for the time you spend with me here in Landanna reading and commenting on Soul Food.

Last monday I asked you all to help me to find symbols for a number of words and lucky as I am two of the words found their symbol. My embroidery needle is very busy again and I hope to show you the symbols for headache and cooperation on monday.

Have a great weekend.

Soul Food (part 45)

Today's post shows you the four elements. The picture above stands for our planet earth.

The waves of the sea represents the water.

The clouds in the sky are standing for air.

And this little pink flame is fire. While I was pondering about how to symbolize these four, I found the squares too large and that is the reason why there is a small circle around them.

Have a day filled with the pleasure of being in balance.

Soul Food (part 44)

The picture of the moustache is a reminder of a very special friend. He is the one who learned me to appreciate country music. I'm grateful for that and the million of other things he did for me. In his honour I included a song which I know he loves, you can hear it here.

Mr. Moon I included for all the nights I wasn't able to sleep because my mind wanted to think and kept me awake or woke me up when I finally dozed off.

Hope you slept well and feel fresh to start this new day.

Soul Food (part 43)

Today I want to show you a swedish heart in the softest felt I ever made. A heart, a storage place for all our memories. Good or bad, made out of love or hate, experienced with bubbling joy or the the bluest blues, they are weaved into our memorysafe. Meeting someone, exchanging energy is not or shouldn't be a random thing. One word, one touch, one song, one piece of art, one smile or a simple thank you can be life changing.

Let us create memories with the sofest gentleness we are capable of and share our abundant love. It will change us forever and therefore the world.

Have a beautiful day filled with gentleness, I love you all.

Soul Food (part 42)

Today I have a special post for you. For some time already I struggle to find some symbols for a number of words which I really want to incorporate in Soul Food. Last friday I found symbols for two of these words with the help of Anthony, Karen and Julie.

This heart is made of the darkest blue felt I could find and stands for fear. Anthony wrote a beautiful piece about it here. While pondering about his words I thought about the road we travel.

Karen showed a stunning piece last week with the loveliest french knots and each time I see them I think: Lets make some knots. Never do because it doesn't fit in. Friday, Julie had the last day of her week of colors and I was blown away by the beauty of all of these lively pretty colors. I felt so much joy that I organized a party for one and played some very loud music. (Bruce also came by). Friday night I sat down and came up with this one.

It is called JOY!

At this moment there are only 40 of the 238 blocks left on Soul Food and as I said before I really want to incorporate some words but can't find a symbol for them. The words I'm talking about are: gratitude, coincidence, cooperation, headache, passion, imagination and longing. So if you happen to have a post about any of these subjects or a drawing, a photograph, an object and you are willing to share it with me, please sent me an email, I can use your help.

Thank you all for dropping by Landanna and a heartfelt thank you til Anthony, Julie and Karen for the inspiration you gave me.

Have a wonderful creative week.

Soul Food (part 41)

The spider is a symbol for unlimited possibilities to create. The cobweb is the creation, the circle of life. When something is caught in the spidersweb this will be eaten by the spider and the energy will appear in the web.

What flew in your web today?

Have a wonderful creative weekend.

Soul Food (part 40)

The almost last produce from the garden is collected. We tried a number of new things in our vegetable garden and it worked out ok.

Since I love asphargus, I bought some seed and put it in and managed to get 6 plants, here you can see two of them. It will take another two years before there will be a produce but that is just to test my patience.

To honour this experience I found this symbol wich stands for autumn/harvest. The symbol I found at Jenna's place.

Have a great day and I hope you are just as pleased with the harvest from your (creative) garden.

Soul Food (part 39)

A few days ago I realized that I hadn't a symbol for my embroidery. So this little pink needle stands for my love for embroidery and other creative work.

The picture above stands for my learning process. First there is a little bit of knowledge. This knowledge expands but I'm still in a confused state about it. Slowly I disentangle everything and the small circle is standing for my ability to use what I have learned.

Have a day filled with lots of fun things to learn.

Soul Food (part 37)

Today a post filled with fun. This doll you see here is called Dotje. Dotje is already a grand old lady because she is more than forty years old. A family member made her when I was a little girl and she always has been a close friend. Nowadays she is a close friend for my boys who still play with her. During her life she lost her hair and her little white dress with red dots and I had to repair her on several occasions but that is ok. Dotje is loved deeply.

Such a grand lady deserves a spot on Soul Food and here you can see her.

Have a fantastic weekend filled with friendship and creativity.

Soul Food (part 36)

Today's symbol is a part of a windmill. No matter were you are born you will be influenced by that fact. I'm influenced by the fact that I'm born in the Netherlands, it's a part of my identity. Since the world is thinking about windmills when they hear about the Netherlands (Holland) I thought it would be a good symbol to show bit of information.

Identity isn't a static piece of information anyone can write down in stone because we are constantly growing and therefore changing. This snake is losing it's skin to show a new him. This is how I feel about Soul Food. Although a lot of symbols are personal stories, my own history, I still feel the need to grow, experience new things, meet new people, live. A 'new' me is slowly sneaking up on me and I love my snake for showing the way.

Have a day filled with butterfly miracles.

A new teacher

Today I want to share something special because I learn so much from my creative journey and I want to pass on one of the treasures. Well here we go.

Monday night I dreamt about stones with holes and crocheting. I made Pinky and one other covered stone during the Julie project last april but other than that I never had an interest to explore this road. And despite the fact that I can't remember the particulars of my dream I felt the need to do something with it yesterday. So I took a medium stone with a hole and started crocheting. While I was crocheting all kinds of thoughts swirled around. Each time the stone became another word for life. One of the thoughts was that a crochet pattern is like a habit. I needed to adapt the pattern if I wanted to cover the stone. Life also calls sometimes for changing habits because otherwise you can't get were you want to go. Now I 'only' have to figure is this a general idea of is there a habit that isn't serving me anymore.

Later on, while I was done with this stone I realized something different. If you see yarn as time and the stone as life, the hole becomes a wound which heals in time but it remains always a soft spot. Why? The yarn fills up the hole.

Maybe all of this doesn't make any sense to you but I have to say that I am really happy with my new symbol, with my new teacher.

Have a wonderful day filled with the teachers of mother nature.

There is not that much to tell about these symbols other than I love them.

Have a day filled with the things you love.

Soul Food (part 34)

Today I want to start with saying thank you all for stopping by during the weekend and leaving the most awesome comments.

My first picture today is a lizzard. This lizzard is for my symbol for dreaming. Dreaming, for me, is one of the loveliest, most inspiring thing to do. Therefore this lizzard deserves it's place on Soul Food. One of my recent dreams also found a place on my canvas. You can see it in the second picture.

When this symbol appeared I was totally shaken by the love I had seen/felt/experienced. Although I already have a number of symbols for conversation I couldn't resist to also embroider this on. Here you can see the energy going from one person to the other person, like a loving embrace in words.

Lets have a day filled with the most wonderful dreams.

Soul Food (part 33)

The two symbols of today are my interpretations of symbols used by the aboriginals. The picture above is my symbol for friends gathered around the table. Love to have people around and share ideas, thoughts, just time together.

The symbol below is a boomerang. Aboriginals used it for hunting because the boomerang would come back to the hunter if they missed their prey. I don't see myself as a hunter but I do sent energy into the world and in one form or the other it's coming back. The boomerang is made of very soft felted merinowool just to raise my awareness to be gentle. Really like this symbol because it's a lifelong learning process.

Another week at Landanna has passed and I enjoyed myself with making pieces of felt, drawing, reading, visiting places and a lot of stitching. Thank you all for stopping by and for sending the lovely e-mails and nice comments, I enjoyed every minute with them.

Have a creative weekend and I'll see you monday.

Soul Food (part 32)

Today I want to show you three symbols who have absolutely nothing in common. First my bike. I bless the day I learned to bike. My bike is used every single day with joy. It gives me a sense of freedom. At one time I used my bike to move my stuff from one appartment to the other one, except for the furniture. On fridaynight, our car neatly parked at the frontdoor, I take my bike and bicycle to the groceryshop and get the things we need. What can I tell more, I just love to bike.

I'm a Taurus.

And although I see myself as a very patient person, I always think: What's next! Still need to learn a little bit more about just enjoying the moment.

Leaves me to say goodbye and you maybe thinking: What's next!!!

Just enjoy your day.

Soul Food (part 31)

This symbol took it's own turn. I have been drawing this symbol already for a long time. It is a heart which is drawn four time to make a four leaf clover. The result, no perfect four leaf clover but a perfect symbol. This symbol tells me the story of all the moments of deep felt happiness which last only a short time because energy keeps flowing around and altering constantly.

Here you see three swedish heart folded with handmade paper, on each is written a poem, which are very special to me. I'm not really good at this folding thing, it took me several hours and unfortunately the result is not as I imagined it. Still like the idea of the swedish heart with a poem on it , that is why I share this with you. Maybe you can do a better job with your favorite poem or quotation.

Have a creative day.
